General information

The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) was established in 1952 to serve mainly the needs of Eastern Slovakia for education and scientific research in various fields of technology and engineering. The University is fully state supported institution providing fee free education to its students. During the academic year 1998/99 the total number of students at the university amounts to about 10 000 students. The TUKE consists of seven faculties:

Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Control and Geotechnology Engineering,
Faculty of Metallurgical Engineering,
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering,
Faculty of Electrical engineering and Informatics ,
Faculty of Civil Engineering,
Faculty of Economics

The faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (FEI) was founded in 1969 (at that time as The Faculty of Electrical Engineering). Since that time more than 6 400 students have graduated from the FEI. Currently there are about two thousands undergraduates and more than hundred PhD students at the FEI. There are several students from abroad studying at the FEI and in the recent years a special educational program in English language has been started on the tuition fee basis for foreign students.

The FEI grants BSc, MSc, PhD degrees in the chosen field of engineering and technology. The all degrees are granted on the basis of the fulfilment of credit requirements, submition of bachelr, diploma (MSc) and PhD thesis after 3, 5-6 and 3-5 years period of study respectively.
